Why I’m Quitting Social Media Again (And Maybe You Should Too)
The other day, I was chilling and scrolling through Instagram. I tapped on this one guy’s story, don’t really know him personally, but we follow each other. You know how that goes.
Then I saw it.
He won a football trophy wit
h his team. Apparently, he plays just one level below the top level you can reach at our age. And me? I’m like three levels behind that, not great.
That moment hit me hard. My brain didn’t go, “Good for him, he probably worked hard for it.” Instead, it flipped into comparison mode: “Why am I not there? What’s wrong with me?”
And just like that, I was spiraling.
This isn’t even about football. It's about what social media does to your mind. You’re just casually scrolling and suddenly you feel like your life isn’t enough. And the worst part? You don’t even realize it’s happening.
But I’ve been here before.
Back in the summer of 2024, I stayed off social media for a while. No Instagram, barely any YouTube or TikTok. And honestly? I was in the best mental space I’ve been in for a long time. I’d spend my days working out, reading, watching podcasts, filming videos, learning random stuff online. And it felt... real.
I wasn’t constantly comparing myself to athletes, influencers, or bodybuilders. My mind was clearer, my confidence was higher, and I felt more like me.
And now, halfway through June 2025, I want that feeling back.
I want to live more and scroll less. I want to build habits that actually move me forward. And let’s be real, not being glued to your phone is kind of rare now. Even people on self-improvement apps can’t resist checking stories every hour.
What I’m Doing (And What You Can Try Too):
Deleting the apps — or at least logging out for a week
Unfollowing accounts that make me feel insecure or stuck
Replacing screen time with workouts, books, and real conversations
Being okay with missing out, because peace > constant noise
🧱 One Step You Can Take Today:
Start small. You don’t have to go full monk mode. Just pick a day, one day - and go without Instagram, TikTok, or whatever app eats your brain the most.
Track how you feel at the end of that day. You might just be surprised.
🧍♂️My Final Thoughts: Be the creator not Consumer!
I’m not against social media. It’s powerful when used right. But when it starts messing with your self-worth and stealing your time? That’s when you need to take a step back.
This is just me trying to live more intentionally. If you relate, maybe try it too.
Let’s not let someone’s highlight reel make us forget how far we’ve come.
